Even for experienced team members, it can often be helpful to have a third party act as a facilitator for the first 2-3 meetings. The facilitator can ensure that the team focuses on the 'Forming' steps (establishing practices, roles, ground rules, as well as clarifying scope of projects). A third party facilitator will usually be neutral and minimize the risk of one or more individuals dominating the discussions.
