Data Center Operations Services Team (DOST)

Mission

The Data Center Operations Services Team (DOST) strives to provide our customers with affordable operational excellence (see our Service Level Agreement). DOST maintains and operates a physically secured and environmentally controlled facility that houses MIT's enterprise servers as well as departmental servers. The team works very closely with Server Operations and clients.


DOST staff and the Data Center are located in Building W91. The Data Center is staffed 5x17 from 6 AM to 11 PM on weekdays. Data Center staff are on call 7x24 for unattended hours.


About the Data Center

IS&T operates the W91 Data Center for the MIT community. The 6,500 sq. ft. facility is a central location for the housing and management of enterprise wide business application servers, related centralized computer generated printing, selected departmental servers, network-based remote desktop backup service (TSM), and collocation services for housing of departmental servers and high performance computers (HPC) for research labs and centers.

Currently DOST manages two computer rooms housing approximately 250 servers, 30 TBytes of data storage, 250 TBytes of nearline data storage, .5 PBytes of automated tape storage, and a 24,000 data tape library.

  • Co-location Services - The Data Center is a secure facility with emergency power, environmental monitoring and optional "hands and eyes" services for customer-managed servers.

Our normal attended coverage hours are:
Monday through Friday
6:00 am to 11:00 pm
Exceptions: MIT holidays and special closings
