No. 1 Using Attachments in the Eudora Pro Email ProgramPhyllis Galt
Eudora Pro is the preferred email package at MIT for Macintosh and
Windows users. One of the key benefits Eudora has over TechMail is that
it lets you exchange formatted files - such as word processed documents,
graphics, and spreadsheets - with users on either a Macintosh or PC. You
can even exchange formatted files with colleagues who use some other
commercial email packages, such as CCmail.
Eudora lets you exchange these files by "attaching" them to an open
email message. This article steps you through how to send, store, and
open attachments in Eudora.
Attaching Files
You can attach one or more files to a message by following a two-step
procedure for each attachment.
1. Choose Attach Document (Macintosh) or Attach File (Windows) from
the Message menu.
Result: A dialog box prompts you to locate the file you want to
attach.
2. Navigate to the file you want to attach, select it, then click on
Open.
Result: The file is attached to the message and will be sent with it.
The Attachments: line in the header contains the name of the attached
file.
Storing Attached Files
When you receive an attached file with a message, it is automatically
stored in the Attachments folder in the Eudora folder in your System
folder. If you want, you can move attachments out of this folder and
store them elsewhere. You can also specify a different folder to store
attachments. To do this,
1. Choose Settings from the Special menu (Macintosh) or Options from the
Tools menu (Windows).
2. Click on the Attachments icon.
3. Click on the Attachment Folder button under Attachment Folder (Mac) or the
Attachment Directory button under the Attachment Directory (Windows):
Result: A dialog box appears that lets you choose a folder.
4. Navigate to the folder you want to use, then click on Use Folder
(Macintosh) or Use Directory (Windows).
Opening Attached Files
To open an attached file, the program in which the attached file was
created needs to be installed on your computer. There are two ways to
open an attached file:
* Double-click anywhere on the Attachments: line in the header of the
message and the program will start up and open the file. (If you
double-click on an attachment for which you don't have the program,
you'll be prompted to locate the program.)
* Start up a program to open the file, navigate to the folder where
it's stored, and open it in the usual way.
