Information Systems staff have geared up to give several IAP presentations that focus on computers. The seminars highlighed below are open to a general audience and require no preregistration. They are listed in chronological order.

Practical UNIX Security

Security is vital to productive computing. Whether you're running a Linux PC or a lab of Sun machines, itıs important to secure your systems. This seminar gives an overview of tools and techniques, including encryption, Kerberos, and auditing.

This seminar on network security for NT workstations provides a range of tips and techniques. Topics include Service Pack 3, Network Neighborhood/ NetBEUI, Kerberos and NT, and the latest Microsoft slams and rumors.

A Virtual Tour of MITnet

Find out what goes on behind the scenes as you send and retrieve email or browse the World Wide Web. This presentation goes over the basics of computer networking, paying close attention to the network technologies and services in use on MITnet.

Dr Solomon's Anti-Virus Toolkit

Computer viruses are a continuing problem on campus. Learn how to protect yourself from this threat by using Dr Solomon's Anti-Virus Toolkit (for Macintoshes and PCs). MIT has a site license for this product, so members of the community can use it for free. Find out how Dr Solomon's works and how to get a copy.

ECAT2 ­ The Latest in Electronic Purchasing

This presentation gives an overview of developments in making Institute purchases over the Web. There will be a demo of the MCC-Online/NECX catalog for buying hardware and software and a review of policies and procedures. People who do purchasing for departments, labs, and offices are especially encouraged to attend.
