IS Supports New Products from Apple, Dell, and HP

Robyn Fizz

Apple, Dell, and Hewlett Packard have all recently released new products: Apple, the iMac and PowerBook G3s; Dell, the GX1p desktop systems; and HP, the 4000, 5000, and 8000 series LaserJets. Most of these products come in several configurations; IS recommends specific models for use at MIT. For details, go to Supported Products at http://web.mit.edu/ist/products/index.html

These pages give or point to full product specifications. A briefer look at features is offered below.

Apple's iMac and PowerBook G3/266
The iMac, with its all-in-one design, has made quite a splash. It offers easy online access and delivers high-speed networking for LAN or Internet use. The iMac has a PowerPC G3 processor, and is the first Macintosh to feature Universal Serial Bus (USB) connectivity for peripherals.

The PowerBook G3/266 combines aesthetics, power, and ergonomics. The 14.1-inch display offers 1,024 by 768 resolution. Two expansion bays enable a variety of storage and battery options. Connectivity features include built-in Ethernet and a modem that supports K56flex and v.90 standards.
