Features of the IS&T Web Site
Introduction
The IS&T Web Site can be used with
or without a mouse. There are shortcut
keys that will take you to specific sections
of a page, for example the main content
of a page or the search box. Other shortcut
keys will take you to commonly used pages
like the IS&T home page or the site map.
Detailed below is a list of access
keys used in this site and a list of
instructions for using
access keys organized by platform and
browser. You will also find a list of accessible
design features
employed by the site.

Using
Access Keys
Access keys were introduced with the HTML
4.0 recommendations, which include the
"accesskey" attribute for links.
Because there is no standard way of using
access keys, the following table shows
how they are implemented in various web
browsers and operating systems:

Accessibility
Features
This site employs the following accessibility
features:
- All images have text alternates (ALT
attributes), unless they are purely decorative.
- Text uses relative font size so it
can be enlarged or reduced using the
text size options available in visual
browsers.
- Pages are organized to be fully functional,
even with JavaScript turned off.
- Pages are designed to maintain good
contrast, even without style sheets.
- Pages use flexible formats so they
can be automatically resized for different
window sizes and screen resolutions.
- Pages are designed with separate cascading
style sheets, so they can be replaced
by user-defined style sheets.
- Pages validate to a maximum amount,
making exceptions only to aid users with
older browsers.
- Site follows World Wide Web and Section
508 accessibility guidelines.
