IS&T Graphic Identity

Identifying our Expertise and Accomplishments

In November 2003, the Information Services and Technology Department was formed by joining Information Systems (IS) and Financial Systems Services (FSS). With the merger of the two departments came not only a new department name and initials (IS&T), but a core focus on service in consultation with the community and collaboration with the many other groups on campus providing computer facilities and support.

To establish our identity as a department and to ensure the community that we all work together in providing services to them, we have created a single logo that should be used by all functional areas and teams in all communications, media, and publications/printed material (flyers, brochures, reports, letterhead, business cards, forms, applications, powerpoint presentations), web sites, and when applicable, on videos, clothing, buildings, and vehicles.

Many teams have created logos or acronyms and these secondary logos should only be used in conjunction with the IS&T initials, name, and/or logo. The benefit of using the IS&T logo in our communications is that our clients and partners in the MIT community will come easily to identify us with the benefit of our services. Your cooperation will benefit all of us.

-- Jerry Grochow, Vice President for Information Services and Technology

General Guidelines

Logo and Full Name
Use the full name with the logo. We’re developing name recognition. We want people to know the meaning of those three letters and the capabilities that we deliver. Whenever possible, use one of the configurations for web or print provided below. For the exceptions, make sure that the full spelling of “Information Services and Technology” appears somewhere on the web or print page that uses the IS&T logo.

Keep the Proportions
Use the original files in their original proportions. Do not distort by stretching the logo.

distorted logos

Use as Logo, Not as Text
Use the logo as a marker on a web page or in a print publication, but not as text imbedded in a headline or paragraph. Write IS&T in the font of headline or text.

Colors

Identifying with the Institute
Just as our services support the entire MIT community, the IS&T colors integrate with the Institute colors of MIT red and gray. In this case, the color gray extends to black.

On the Web:
MIT Red = #993333
and Black = #000000

hex colors

In Print:
MIT Red = Pantone 201 or process colors 0% cyan, 100% magenta, 65% yellow, 34% black
Black = Black, in Pantone or in process colors.

Alternative Combinations
The primary logo uses black letterforms with an MIT-red dot. The reciprocal is also fine. These are the two preferred color combinations. When the design context is dominated by two other colors, or if the publication is being printed in two colors other than MIT red and black, it is acceptable to use two other colors that work within the given design.
