Career Development

There are 3 components to the "real work" each of us has:

  • The daily, often interruption-driven tasks;
  • Whatever project work we may have;
  • Our own career development.

As one IS&T Team Leader said, "Lose any of the three, and we’re doomed." Why?

There are two reasons that require a serious focus on career development in IS&T:

  • Departmental needs, as we look at the future.
    We -- all of us -- need the growth of each other for the next stages of our work.
  • Staff needs, as we look at the employee opinion survey.
    You need your growth for your next move. Things won’t stay the same in IS&T.

Examples

Each team may take a different approach to the development of the competencies needed in each of its members. The Operations Center uses the following forms help its staff plan and monitor its skill and talent development:
