Administrative Staff
Work Week
MIT does not have a standard work week for Administrative Staff
(aka exempt) employees. A '100% appointment' can mean anywhere
from 35-40 hours, based on the department's requirements.
IS&T
has defined 100% appointment as 40 hours, not including lunch.
For example, a person working 9am-5pm, who routinely takes a 1
hour lunch would be considered as having an 87.5% appointment,
or 35 hours. IS&T
does not have standard daily work hours - individuals should work
with their supervisor to understand what times of day they are
expected to be at work.
Since Administrative Staff are considered 'exempt' employees (exempt
from Federal and State labor laws) they are expected to work the
hours needed to fulfill their work commitments and they are not
paid overtime. IS&T does not require Administrative Staff
to work overtime; however, it is recognized that working more
than 40 hours is not unusual in the the IT field. Anyone who
feels the work requirements regularly and significantly exceed
40 hours should talk with their supervisor, Director, a member
of the IS&T Human Resources (IST-HR) Team, or IS&T's HR Officer.
