New IS&T Employee Orientation: Schedule

Note: This schedule is intended as an overview of the Orientation process. Please see checklists for specific roles and detailed activities.

Prior to Arrival

  • Buddy makes contact.
  • Organize new employee’s workspace (see checklist for items).
  • Put new employee on IS&T/MIT appropriate email/mail lists.
  • IS&T Human Resources (IST-HR) Team contacts Supervisor/AA/Buddy to review orientation process and verify understanding.

First Day

  • New employee greeted by Supervisor and/or Buddy (see checklists).
  • Meet with Supervisor.
  • Go over week’s schedule.
  • Introductions to team.
  • Buddy provides assistance and guidance (see checklist).
  • Get MIT ID card.
  • Taken to lunch or hold team lunch (paid for by IS&T).
  • Meet with Administrative Assistant.
  • End of day check-in with Supervisor and/or Buddy.

First Week

  • Meet with IS&T Human Resources (IST-HR) Team member re: general IS&T overview.
  • Attend HR-scheduled New Hire Orientation.
  • Buddy offers to have lunch with new employee (not paid by IS&T).
  • Supervisor continues end-of-day check-ins.
  • Job specific training.
  • Tour (various IS&T buildings and MIT departments/buildings relevant to job).
  • Introductions to other IS&T and relevant MIT staff.
  • Administrative Assistant goes over office needs if any.

Second Week

  • Buddy/Supervisor offers support as work intensifies.
  • Buddy/Supervisor brings to IS&T meetings or outside related meetings.
  • IS&T Human Resources (IST-HR) Team member check-in.
  • Business cards ready.

  • Possible survey follow-up by IS&T Human Resources (IST-HR) Team member.
