A component of Departmental Consulting and Application Development (DCAD)

Mission
Database Development Services (DDS) are provided by the Departmental Consulting and Applicatinon Development (DCAD) team to promote the effective use of the World Wide Web and other electronic publishing and database tools at MIT. DCAD provides assistance and services to members of the MIT Community, offering a wide array of services including consulting, development, and facilitating use of outside service providers and other IS&T services such as the ATIC lab and the Usability Lab.

Basic Consulting Services - no charge

Database design/redesign consultation including needs analysis, communication and identity goals review, Request for Proposal (RFP) creation, design evaluation and post-launch review.

Business brief/Document of Understanding providing high level overview of the project's parameters, including size, scope, required external interfaces, technical limitations, and resource requirements.

Design and development vendor selection assistance utilizing our pool of experienced internal and external vendors or others of your choice and matching them to your project's objectives.

Technical guidance on integrating IS&T technologies such as an events calendar, eCommerce tools, online forms, Google search, and certificate integration.

Code review with the MIT code compliance, accessibility and usability guidelines.

Coordination of MIT web resources including the Usability Team, Publishing Services Bureau, ATIC Lab, Search Engine Team, and AMPS.

Advanced Consulting Services - fee based

Requirements gathering including facilitating focus groups, auditing existing applications, developing audience profiles, and constructing interactive wireframes.

Departmental web application development for delivering database-driven interactive web sites.

FileMaker development using current standards and best practices.

MIT Data Warehouse integration.
