Creating the Spamscreen Folder in Pine

If you have set up Spamscreen filtering for another IMAP-based email program you use for your MIT email, (e.g., Outlook or Eudora used with IMAP), your Spamscreen folder is already set up.

Note

Note: Everyone with an account created on or after October 4, 2004 will have a Spamscreen folder already created on the main server and will not need to complete the following steps.

Create the Folder

Create a folder called "Spamscreen" within your Inbox folder to catch email marked as spam. To do this:

  1. Launch Pine.

  2. Highlight the Folder List under the Main Menu.

  3. Choose MIT Mail in the Collection List.
Note: Make sure you have chosen your MIT mail server Inbox and not local folders. Normally this will be your first choice in the list.

  6. Name the new folder Spamscreen.
Note: The first - and only the first - letter of Spamscreen should be capitalized.

  7. Hit the Enter/Return key to accept the changes.
    Result:
The Spamscreen folder will automatically open with no messages.

  8. Use < to navigate back to your normal folder list.
Result: You will now see Spamscreen as a folder. All messages flagged as spam will automatically go into this folder.
