MIT Cable Television: Campus Broadcast Services

Bringing Cable to the Campus and the Campus to the World

Overview

MIT Cable Television provides cable television and video broadcast services to the MIT Community, including:

  • Community events
  • Class lectures
  • Help sessions
  • Seminars
  • Project reports
  • Films
  • Satellite broadcasts and videoconferencing

A wide variety of live and pre-recorded programming is carried on MIT Cable Television. Class lectures, help sessions, seminars, and special events are some of the programs that are regularly scheduled on MIT channels. Programs can be seen in many lecture halls, lounges, offices, dormitory common areas, and all residence hall rooms.

MIT Channels

MIT Cable Television operates six local access channels. Educational and community programming is shown on channels 8, 9, 10,11 and 12.

Scheduling Programs

To schedule a program, please send the following information to MIT Cable Television:

  • Date of broadcast
  • Time of broadcast
  • Source of program (live, videotape, satellite)
  • Designated viewing locations (if required)
  • Special instructions

Services

  • Live cable broadcast of campus events.
We can deliver a video broadcast of your live event to everywhere on campus that cable is available. This is useful for providing overflow viewing for oversubscribed events or reaching viewers in dormitories.

  • Live transport of studio quality video for outside broadcast.
Our state of the art facility can deliver "network studio quality" video broadcasts to local television stations, major networks, satellite and international channels. We can presently provide studio quality video from the broadcast studio or Triad facility in Building 9, Kresge Auditorium or Room 10-250.

  • Campus video transport for videoconferencing or webcasts.
MIT Cable hooks up to the groups providing webcasts and videoconferences, and extends their range to the entire campus.

  • Videotape playback.
We can schedule and show your videotapes on one of our channels.

  • Off-air recordings.
We can record programming for "fair use" applications. Recordings are available on DVD or VHS tape.
