MIT Certificate Security Preferences for Mozilla
Mozilla lets you set certain certificate-related
security preferences, either during the process of getting an MIT
CA (Certification
Authority)
signer certificate and personal certificate, or through the Security
or Preferences settings.
The following settings for Mozilla are recommended
in order to access MIT secure web pages, especially from off campus
through
an Internet Service Provider (ISP).
Browser Password
- Open Preferences.
- In the Category panel to the left of the Preferences
window, click the arrow pointing to Privacy & Security.
- Click Master Password.
- If you have not set a Master Password do so, click on Set Password and follow the instructions.
- Under "Netscape will ask for your master password:", select
the option The first time it is needed.
- Click OK.

MIT CA Signer Certificate
During the process of getting the MIT CA (Certification Authority),
select the following option when it appears:
Trust this CA to identify web sites.
To edit certificate authority preferences:
- Open Preferences.
- In the Category panel to the left of the Preferences
window, click the arrow pointing to Privacy & Security.
- Click Certificates, then click on Manage Certificates.
- Click on the Authorities tab, then scroll down to find
the MIT Certification Authority and select it.
- Click the Edit button.
- In the Edit CA certificate trust settings, select This certificate
can identify web sites.
- Click OK; close the Certificate Manager Window; click
OK in the Preferences window.

Personal Certificate
- Open Preferences.
- In the Category panel to the left of the Preferences
window, click the arrow pointing to Privacy & Security.
- Click Certificates.
- In the Certificates panel, under Client Certificate Selection,
select Select Automatically.
- Click OK
