Configure DHCP Settings

Apply the following configurations to your Ethernet connection and wireless connection (if applicable). You may need to reboot your machine for these settings to take effect.

Note: Windows users should go to Preventing Reinfection During Cleanup of Your Windows Machine (instructions apply to non-infected machines as well) prior to proceeding.

Windows XP

  1. From the Start menu, open Control Panel.

  2. Double-click the Network Connections icon.

  3. Right-click on the Local Area Connection icon and select Properties.

  4. Select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click the Properties button.

  5. Select Obtain IP address automatically.

  6. Select Obtain DNS server address automatically.

  7. Click OK. Continue backing your way out of the control panels by clicking OK at each window.

Windows 2000

  1. From the Start menu, open Settings and click on Network and Dialup Connections.

  2. Double-click on the Local Area Connection icon.

  3. Click the Properties button.

  4. Select Obtain IP address automatically.

  5. Select Obtain DNS server address automatically.

  6. Click the Advanced… button in the lower right.

  7. Select DHCP enabled and click OK. Continue backing your way out of the control panels by clicking OK at each window.

Mac OS 10.3 (wired)

  1. Go to System Preferences>Network.

  2. From Show, choose Built-in Ethernet.

  3. Click on the TCP/IP tab.

  4. From Configure, choose Using DHCP.

  5. Delete Domain Name Servers.

  6. Click Apply Now.

Mac OS 10.3 (wireless)

  1. Go to System Preferences>Network.

  2. From Show, choose Airport.

  3. Click on the TCP/IP tab.

  4. From Configure, choose Using DHCP.

  5. Delete Domain Name Servers.

  6. Click Apply Now.

Mac OS 10.2 (wired)

  1. Go to System Preferences>Network.

  2. Click on the TCP/IP tab. In the TCP/IP panel, change Configure Manually to Using DHCP.

  3. Delete any Domain Name Servers that are listed in the Domain Name Servers box.

  4. Click Apply Now.

Mac OS 10.2 (wireless)

  1. Go to System Preferences>Network.

  2. Click on the Airport tab. In the TCP/IP panel, change Configure Manually to Using DHCP.

  3. Delete any Domain Name Servers that are listed in the Domain Name Servers box.

  4. Click Apply Now.
