Server Operations Services

Server Operations provides a comprehensive package of hardware and software services that support administration and research computing at MIT. These services include:

  • acquisition and installation of hardware and software
  • subsequent maintenance such as updates, patches, migrations, and problem resolution

More specifically, Server Operations focuses on the following five areas:

  • Server Administration: Done through SLA's for administrative and academic servers.

  • Athena Computing Environment: Support for server systems fundamental to the functioning of the Athena Computing Environment, which supports Academic Computing at MIT.

  • Database Support: For Oracle

  • Software Support: For EDI and IXOS, which support automation of procurement, billing, and electronic document management, and are closely tied to the SAP environment at MIT.

  • TSM Backup Services: For servers and desktop machines.

The Center provides these services with varying options and prices.

Clients who prefer to manage their own servers but want a secure, controlled envrionment may be interested in Co-location Services, also offered by IS&T.
