NameConnector Service at MIT
MIT's NameConnector service allows you to contact MIT faculty, staff, departments, and residence halls by calling MIT's main switchboard and speaking the name or department you want. For additional information, see Caller Hints and Frequently Asked Questions.
How to Obtain
NameConnector is automatically invoked for all callers to MIT's main number 617.253.1000. During business hours, you may subsequently reach a live operator by saying 'Operator'.
If you know who you want, you can say the name anytime after "you've reached MIT," otherwise listen to the prompts.
To skip the prompts: After you start to hear "You have reached...," press 1 for the faculty/staff name option or press "*" (star/asterisk) for the department or residence hall option (or emergency or operator options).
Updating NameConnector
To update people or department names, including pronunciations, send email to nameconnector@mit.edu. There can be multiple entries for a person or department (e.g., Bob Smith, Bobby Smith, Robert Smith).
