MITvoip Web Interface: Forwarding Calls by Group
Overview
You can set unique forwarding instructions for different groups of contacts. For example, you might want only your family members and your managers to be able to reach you on your cell phone.
When a forwarding sequence or simultaneous ring is active, the caller will hear the automated message "Please hold while I locate the person you are calling."
You can also use this feature in conjunction with ComSchedule to
forward calls on a schedule.

Defining Groups
Before you can set forwarding instructions by group, you must define the groups in your phone book. There are two ways to add a contact to a group: editing the entry or using the drag-and-drop feature.
Editing the Phone Book Entry
- Access the MITvoip Console.
- Click on the Phone Book pane if it is not already open.
- Find the contact you want to add to a group, either by browsing the contact lists or by searching.
- Click on the contact’s name.
Result: The details window for the contact will open.

- From the Calling Group pull-down list (circled in red above), select the group you want to assign.
- Click the Save Changes button.
Using Drag-and-Drop
- Access the MITvoip Console.
- Click on the Reach Me and Phone Book panes if they are not already open.
- In the Reach Me pane, click on the Forwarding by group pane to open it.
- Find the contact you want to add to a group, either by browsing the contact lists or by searching.
- Click on the contact’s name and drag it onto one of the group bars in the
Forwarding by group pane, like the one circled in blue below. If you cannot see the group bar you want, use the scroll bar (circled in red below). The groups are VIPs, Family, and Friends.

Result: The contact’s entry in the Phone Book will automatically update to reflect the new group assignment.

Viewing Groups
Before you start forwarding calls by a group, you should check who is in the group.
- Access the MITvoip Console.
- Click on the Phone Book and Reach Me panes if they are not already open.
- Click on Forwarding by group.
- To view the contacts in a particular group, click on the arrow in that group bar (circled in blue below).

Result: The Phone Book pane will display the contacts in that group on the Personal and Corporate tabs, just as it would for the results of a search.

Be sure you have correctly defined your groups.
- Access the MITvoip Console.
- Click on the Reach Me pane if it isn’t open.
- Click on Forwarding by group.

- In the Forwarding by group pull-down list (circled in green above), either select an existing forwarding sequence or create a new one as follows:
- Select --- NEW ---.
- Click on the first group title bar (VIPs, Family, Friends, or Other) for which you want to define a forwarding sequence.
- Use the group pane (circled in blue above) the same way as you would to create a regular forwarding sequence.
Note: If you include a cell phone in the forwarding sequence, you might have to adjust the ring time setting.
- Define sequences in any of the other group panes.
- Type a name for this set of forwarding sequences in the box circled in red above (no spaces allowed) and click the Save button.
- To activate a forwarding sequence, select its name in the Forwarding by
group pull-down list and click the radio button (circled in green below).

Result: Calls that originate from numbers in your defined groups will
forward according to their respective forwarding sequences. Calls from all other
numbers will follow the sequence you specify in the Other pane.
- To stop forwarding calls by group, select a different radio button in the
Reach Me pane.
