Web Publishing Software

There are many tools for developing Web pages. IS&T recommends Macromedia Dreamweaver to produce HTML, or any tool designed especially to edit HTML. General-purpose tools, such as Microsoft Office, are not recommended for this purpose. Photoshop and ImageReady can be used for graphics creation, however IS&T does not provide technical support for these products.

To transfer files to MIT Web space you need a secure FTP program like FileZilla or SecureFX for Windows, or Fetch for Macintosh. Dreamweaver can also be configured to securely transfer files on either platform. Information on Secure FTP varies by platform. See Secure File Transfer at MIT for more information.

IS&T offers a variety of training options for these programs including Photoshop. For more information go to the IS&T Training pages.
