Because my site isn't the only thing on the internet..

Computers/Internet

  • CNET.com - I've been with them for quite some time now. Excellent source for anything computer related=)
  • ZDNet - Another good, popular reference site.
  • ZDTV - I found out recently that I get ZDTV at home. I suppose it's good to keep you up to computer news when nothing good is on TV;) Some of the shows seemed a little well childish, but might be worth checking out if you're into computers=)
  • W3C - Yes it's the mighty World Wide Web Consortium. They release the specifications that everyone is suppose to adhere to. Now if only all the browsers would adhere to them my life would be simpler;> They still are the authoritative reference for the XHTML specs and they have a branch here at MIT:)
  • TUCOWS - Pretty nice place for downloads. Their ratings are usually fairly accurate and they have tons of Linux stuff too=)
  • Tom's Hardware Guide - Fairly comprehensive source for hardware answers. Not everything's here, but it's a good start if you need anything:)
  • SlashDot - News for nerds.. Stuff that matters=)

Linux

  • RedHat - A distributer of Linux. There are many distibutions of Linux now, but this happens to be the one I installed. It doesn't really matter that much which distibution I chose because I only used it to install the "core" and ended up replacing much of it anyway. However, I found RedHat easy to use and the documentation on their site very helpful:)
  • GNU's Not UNIX - A large portion of what we lump together as "Linux" really originated from the GNU project. Really Linux only refers to the kernel which is an essential part of the operating system. However, the GNU project really started much before work on the kernel began with the dream of eventually achieving a completely free operating system. Go here to read how work that began at the MIT AI labs became the huge movement we see today to keep software free for all to use, modify, and distribute=)
  • Open Source Initiative - Keep the open source movement alive! People are rapidly realizing that keeping software opensource makes software more useful, reliable, and ultimately benefits everyone=)
  • Linux Documentation Project - The greatest tools are useless if no one knows how to use them. Same goes with operating systems. This site has a large collection of helpful documents that linux users of all levels can find useful.
  • Linux Online! - If you must have the latest and greatest, this site will help you keep up with major development projects:)

Athena

Gaming

  • Gamecenter.com - For your gaming needs=)
  • Gamespot - If you need a second opinion=)
  • RPGamer - To keep up to all the different RPGs coming out!
  • SquareSoft - Makers of the best RPGs. The World Is Square=)
  • id Software - They made the first-person shooter genre=)

Misc

  • Am I hot? - Creation of my old roommate Dan=) It was a huge success when it first came out!
  • WinAMP - Because mp3s rule:)
