Product and Technology Releases

The following J2SE products and technologies were recently released:

JSR 141 Session Description Protocol (SDP) API 1.0 Proposed Final Draft
The IETF protocol SDP specifies messages that describe multimedia sessions and are included within other protocol messages as payload. The API will enable users to manipulate SDP messages.

JSR 200 Network Transfer Format for Java Archives PFD 3
Defines a dense download format for Java classfiles. It is expected that this format can achieve considerable size savings over compressed JAR files.

JSR 114 JDBC Rowset Implementations 1.0.1 Maintenance Release
Java API providing implementations of the JDBC Rowset interface.

JSR 212 Server API for Mobile Services: Messaging 1.0 Final Release
Defines a protocol-agnostic messaging API for composing, sending and receiving short messages and multimedia messages. It provides a client API to Short Message Service (SMS) and Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS) servers.

JSR 225 XQuery API for Java 1.0 Early Draft Review
Develops a common API that allows an application to submit queries conforming to the W3C XQuery 1.0 specification and to process the results of such queries.

Java Web Services Developer Pack (Java WSDP) 1.4
Allows the developer to evaluate the latest XML and web services technologies, create XML and web service-enabled applications, and simplify legacy application integration, data interchange, and publishing in a web environment.

JSR 176 J2SE 1.5 (Tiger) Release Contents Proposed Final Draft
Defines the major features of the J2SE "Tiger" release (J2SE 1.5).

JSR 222 Java API for XML Data Binding 2.0 Early Draft Review
Proposes additional functionality while retaining ease of development as a key goal.

JSR 224 Java API for XML-based RPC 2.0 Early Draft Review
Extends the existing 1.0 spec with new features, including: direct support for JAXB 2.0-based data binding, support for the latest W3C and WS-I standards (e.g. SOAP 1.2, WSDL 1.2), standardized metadata for Java/WSDL mapping, an improved handler framework, and support for asynchronous RPC and non-HTTP transports.

JSR 243 Java Data Objects 2.0 Early Draft Review
The high level objectives are to make JDO easier to use, more closely align JDO with J2EE, standardize JDO's support of relational databases, and broaden the scope of JDO to include more vendor persistence architectures.
