To Open a URL (or Visit a Place)

1. Click anywhere in the Place type-in field at the top of the HotJava Browser.
   Alternatively, choose Edit Place from the Places menu to activate the Place field with the current URL selected.
2. Type the desired URL (for example, http://www.javasoft.com/).
   Any highlighted text is replaced with new text you type.
3. If you want to edit the current URL in the Place field, click at the position in the URL where you want to edit text, then either insert new text or backspace over the existing text.
4. Press Return or Enter to load the new page.

   If the HotJava Browser displays error messages about an Unknown Host, you probably need to set proxy servers for HotJava.

TIP: Opening an Additional Browser Window

• To display a new page in a separate HotJava Browser window, hold down the Shift key while you open the page.

  For example, hold down the Shift key while:

  • Pressing Return or Enter after typing in a new URL to visit
  • Choosing a menu item that displays a new page
  • Clicking on a navigation button or link
  • Double-clicking on a bookmark in the Remembered Places window

  You can also press the right mouse button over a link to display the HotJava Commands pop-up menu, then choose Open this Link in New Window.
