Troubleshooting

The following list shows possible errors and their solutions. If the problem cannot be resolved after attempting the solutions described here, please contact our licensing department.

When I log in using an account in a different Windows Domain, why can't I use the previously registered licenses for my Borland Products?

Borland products are licensed per user. The Windows operating system sees these accounts in other domains as different users, even if they share the same account name and password.

If both domains exist in the same organization, a trust could be established between the domains. With this configuration, a single domain login can be given access to resources in both domains. This would allow the one Windows login to use the resources in both domains, removing the need for multiple accounts.

Related Microsoft Knowledge Base "How To" Documents:

If the domains do not exist in the same organization, consider installing and using the software with a local user account. A local user account cannot automatically be provided access to resources in a domain, but instead would be prompted for credentials when attempting to access each resource. These credentials would be specific to the particular domain in which the resource is located.

Error: Cannot detect internet connection. Please confirm the internet connection is available.

Your connection to the internet failed while attempting to obtain authentication from the licensing server. Retry connecting to the internet to obtain the licensing key again.

Error: Borland Developer Network web site is not available now.

Either the network connection is not available or your DNS settings are incorrect.

Error: Either the login name, e-mail address, or password is not correct.

The login information entered does not match the information that you have previously entered.

Error: The install number entered is not correct.

Either the serial number or license key was entered incorrectly. Please verify that both of them are correct. In particular, check for numbers entered as letters, or incorrect punctuation characters.

Error: The number of users exceeded the limit allowed in this install number.

The user registration limit has been reached. Please contact our licensing department.

Error: The install number is used by another user.

Please contact our licensing department by phone. The serial number is used for the registration of other users. Unless additional licenses are purchased, the same serial number cannot be shared by multiple users.

Error: The login name that you selected is already used by other users. Please select a different login name.

The user name is important for identifying each customer. The name can be set arbitrarily, but when the same user name is used by another user, you have to set a different user name.

The e-mail address that you entered is already registered. This e-mail address cannot be used for registering a new user.

Multiple user names cannot be set on the same e-mail address. Specify a new e-mail address.

Error: Information necessary for registering a new user has not been provided.

Please specify a unique user name, e-mail address, and password.

Checking out a concurrent license

When you're using a concurrent license for your Borland product, you might have occasions where you want to work offline, rather than connected to the Borland License Server. The License Manager provides Check Out and Check In features that allow you to work offline. When you check out a license, you need to specify the duration of the check out. Once you've completed your offline work, you can check in the license to return it to the license pool. The client product has to be able to reach the license server in order to check in the license.

Concurrent licenses are listed on the server in a userlist-concurrent.txt file. The maximum checkout time is set by the server administrator for each user.

Follow these simple steps to check out a license:

  1. Choose Tools|License Manager to open the License Manager.
  2. Right-click the Concurrent Network License node in the tree on the left and choose Check Out License.
  3. Enter the duration time in hours in the License Duration (hours) field. You can't exceed the maximum checkout time set by your server administrator. See your administrator for the maximum setting.
  4. Click OK to close the Checkout License dialog box. A Checkout Successful message displays. Click OK to close it. A red check mark displays next to the Concurrent Network License node to indicate that you're disconnected from the Borland License Server and can use the product offline.
Important: Notice that the remaining checkout time is displayed next to the Concurrent Network License node in parenthesis. For example, Concurrent Network License (1 hour left). To refresh the checkout time, right-click the Concurrent Network License node and choose Refresh Time Left.

Checking in a concurrent license

Once you've completed your offline work, you need to check the license in to return it to the license pool.

Follow these simple steps to check in a license:

  1. Choose Tools|License Manager to open the License Manager.
  2. Right-click the Concurrent Network License node in the tree on the left and choose Check In License.
  3. Click Yes in the Confirm License Checkin dialog box to check the license in.
