In Spring 2011, a small group of individuals who are integral to advancing adaptation initiatives in their cities met at the Rockefeller Bellagio Study and Conference Center in Bellagio Italy. The leaders were joined by several scholars and researchers who served as coordinators and discussion facilitators.

The meeting was designed so that those assembled would have the opportunity to reflect on their experiences, test their ideas, and learn from each other. Through these exchanges, it was anticipated individuals would enhance their understanding of urban adaptation and place their experiences in context.

Over the course of meeting, participants engaged in intensive discussions about how to better engage citizens in adaptation planning and implementatioess reliable scientific information, devise appropriate municipal investments, and develop stronger institutin, accons.

The conference achieved the objectives of bringing leading practitioners together to discuss insights, lessons, and challenges in their respective adaptation activities. As the conference was designed to be a shared learning opportunity, over the course of the meeting, participants were able to reflect on their own experiences and learn from others who were present. The lessons learned will be disseminated to the broader urban adaptation community through conference presentations, a summary report, and journal articles. Information about these materials will be posted on the results page of this website.
