This ongoing project involves the design of a set of exhibition buildings on the periphery of a national park along the coast of Madagascar. The exhibit deals with environmental issues related to the recent formation of protected zones within the largest primary rainforest in the country. Viewing sustainability as putting in place a set of responsive systems, this project seeks to address numerous possibilities for holistic design within this context. The design intends to become an example of ‘green’ systems use, viable and less intensive material use, and of general health-giving principles that may be used for building and basic infrastructure in the region. The process of design considerations is seen from an inclusive viewpoint, where community involvement, exhibit message, construction practices, landscape practices, and all architectural design are considered in concert with one another.
