Taiho-Jitsu is a Ju-Jitsu based system of self-defense and attacker/suspect control utilizing strikes, kicks, joint-locks, baton, rope-tying, hand-cuffing, weapons retention, and verbal commands. This system was developed specifically for Police in Japan, England, and the United States, but is also practiced by civilians. Taiho-Jitsu is practiced both standing and with ground applications, against armed and unarmed attacks, against single or multiple attackers. In this 3-hour introduction to Taiho-Jitsu for civilians with some martial arts training, Master Cunningham will present classic open hand self-defense suppression techniques (both standing and on the ground) and baton techniques (suitable for all stick-work, such as Arnis di Mano or Hanbo). This seminar is suitable for all levels of experience. Please bring sticks if you have them. Wear gi or comfortable clothing.

Jiu-Jitsu Seminar Jiu-Jitsu, or
the Gentle Art, consists of a wide variety of techniques: joint locks,
submission holds, throws and strikes. Jiu-Jitsu does not rely on brute
strength, but rather on flexible response and the use of an attacker's
own energy. Jiu-Jitsu prepares a person for any situation, including
stand-up and ground fighting, stick and knife attacks, and multiple
attacks. In 1994, Sensei McCarthy founded an American Jiu-Jitsu school at MIT and was head instructor there for 3 years. Today, that school is one of the largest and most succesful martial arts schools at MIT. His highest ranked students (2) currently hold the rank of Nidan, followed by 2 other shodans. Sensei Jason continues his love for sharing the art of Jiu Jitsu by opening New York Jiu Jitsu, the Manhattan Dojo of American Jiu Jitsu Centers. Sensei Tony
Avila is a 2nd Degree Black Belt (Nidan) in American Jiu-Jitsu. Along
with his Jiu-Jitsu training, Sensei Tony has experience in Hapkido,
Judo, Grappling, Knife

experience, which includes being the Head Instructor of the American
Jiu-Jitsu Club at MIT and teaching Rape Prevention seminars in the Boston
