Job Description

ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR/RESEARCH SCIENTIST, Biology, to join the Computational and Systems Biology Institute (CSBi). CSBi is a virtual institute spanning multiple schools and departments at MIT. It is dedicated to the development of research and education programs in experimental and computational systems biology. Will work closely with faculty members to help establish scientific objectives, including development and ongoing integration of core research facilities and research programs; assist with the preparation of grant funding applications, including scientific and infrastructure aspects; represent CSBi at international scientific meetings; write position papers based on CSBi activities; oversee preparation of the annual report; managing the content of the web site; and coordinate outreach to the MIT community including organizing, and publicizing periodic workshops, seminars, and symposia. Will work closely with faculty and senior administrative officers in the departments of Biology, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, and Biological Engineering. REQUIREMENTS: a Ph.D. in biology, chemistry, bioengineering, computer science, or related fields. Two to three years of postdoctoral experience preferred. Experience with computer programming and information technologies also preferred. Must have excellent oral and written communication skills and be able to write about scientific subjects for a nontechnical audience. Excellent organizational and administrative skills and an ability to work well independently and as part of a team required. 02-0721
