Job Description

RESEARCH SCIENTIST, Harvard-MIT Division of Health Sciences and Technology, to develop and apply theoretical models for biophysical mechanisms to describe the interaction of electromagnetic fields (for both weak and strong fields) with biological systems at the subcellular, individual cell, and multiple cell levels. Theoretical duties will emphasize developing and carrying out simulations of electrical, thermal, and chemical interactions using transport lattice models at the subcellular, cellular, and multicellular levels. Experimental duties will involve creating and using custom apparatus for cell and tissue electroporation, including skin. Will use computer simulation methods based on images and experience with circuit theory and with circuit simulation software such as SPICE. REQUIREMENTS: Ph.D.; multidisciplinary experience in the general research area of bioelectrochemistry and bioelectromagnetics; and experimental experience with electroporation techniques using custom chambers and electrodes. Electronic instrumentation required--particularly optical methods that include epiillumination fluorescence microscopy, confocal microscopy spectroscopy, and flow cytometry--for research on individual cell preparations and on tissue, particularly skin. Theoretical expertise required. Must possess good judgment and ability to work both independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team. Flexibility and ability to adapt to fast moving and evolving research environment important. 02-0877
