Job Description

DIRECTOR, COMMUNICATIONS AND DONOR RELATIONS, Resource Development, to develop and manage an effective communications program promoting successful fund-raising efforts with emphasis on individuals, corporations, and foundations. Will oversee projects in communications, events, and stewardship supporting a capital campaign; develop an understanding of the MIT culture and community; create and implement strategies that articulate MIT's fund-raising case; and develop methods to measure effects and guide changes. Will also develop methods for coordinating communications planning and execution with the Alumni/ae Association, schools, and the Office of the President to ensure consistency of message, tone, and style and to leverage both internal and external resources and relationships; write feature stories, press releases, case statements, proposals, speeches, and direct mail letters; collaborate on the development of strategic plans and budgets for events and stewardship within and beyond a capital campaign; work with staff to maintain high quality of existing practices and develop new methods for thanking, celebrating, and honoring MIT's benefactors; serve as a member of Resource Development's senior management group and represent the department on committees that promote good citizenship and teamwork; and maintain close working relationships across the Institute. REQUIREMENTS: a bachelor's degree, at least ten years' experience in journalism and/or marketing, knowledge of fund-raising communications, excellent reportorial and writing skills, analytical and marketing skills, ability to work in a complex organizational structure, knowledge of and experience with electronic media, and management experience. Hiring range: $85,000 to $95,000. 02-1000R
