Job Description

TECHNICAL ASSISTANT, McGovern Institute for Brain Research, to manage the daily operations of a new faculty laboratory engaged in studies of touch perception. Responsibilities will include animal supervision and handling; general laboratory matters including purchasing and inventory; participation in neuroscience research projects; and handling administrative tasks including budget management, preparing and assembling nonscientific portions of grant proposals, and orienting and preparing new employees for work in the lab. Will also administer budgets to ensure that the correct grants are charged and expenditures do not exceed budgets and handle special projects and tasks as assigned. The position offers the opportunity to directly participate in research projects, depending on experience and willingness to learn. REQUIREMENTS: a bachelor's degree in biology, psychology, or a related field. Basic computer skills required. Some experience with financial accounting systems and grants administration preferred. Should have good organizational skills and the ability to work comfortably with animals. Experience with animal care and an interest in perception and/or neuroscience highly desirable. 02-1014
