Job Description

ELECTRONIC ENGINEER, Center for Space Research, to lead the design implementation and commissioning of instrumentation for the Gravitation and Cosmology Research Group's new LIGO Advanced Systems Test Interferometer (LASTI) research facility. Will work with engineers and experimental physicists from collaborating institutions to integrate existing digital, analog, and RF infrastructure and software with custom designs; and provide complete life cycle oversight for both original and adopted systems. Production and fabrication responsibilities will range from one-of-a-kind experimental prototypes, adapters, and breadboards up to small production runs using a combination of in-house technical support, contract services, and vendor outsourcing. Will also manage the electronics laboratory and test equipment pool; provide hands-on electronics support for group research activities; and participate in work planning, proposal preparation, budgeting, hiring, and other management activities. REQUIREMENTS: a B.S. or higher in engineering or physics and a minimum of five years' experience demonstrating proficiency in at least two of the following core disciplines: low-noise analog and mixed-signal design and simulation, feedback control systems (continuous and discrete-time), real time digital signal processing (hardware and software), RF circuit and system design, and RFI/EMI measurement and control. Must be willing to expand expertise to achieve proficiency in any or all of the above disciplines. Must be proactive and have proven ability to work well in a multidisciplinary, vertically integrated team. Good verbal and written communication abilities essential.
