Job Description

SR. OFFICE ASSISTANT, Center for Space Research (part-time, 17.5 hrs/wk.), to perform administrative duties for CSR personnel in the Chandra X-ray Observatory, High Energy Transmission Grating research groups, and the Education and Public Outreach Group of the NE80 facility (comprised of about 25 scientists). Will also provide backup support for MIT/CSR NE80 flight-project groups. Responsibilities include providing routine administrative support; maintaining office supplies; distributing mail; handling special purchases such as equipment and publication charges; arranging travel; managing office space, schedules, and meeting rooms; acting as a liaison between NE80 and CSR central administration, vendors, job candidates, and guests; coordinating group tasks and events; providing occasional support for nonroutine events; facilitating hosting of visitors; and assisting with special publications, meetings, or workshops. REQUIRMENTS: a high school diploma; excellent organizational skills; ability to set priorities among conflicting demands and to manage multiple tasks simultaneously; solid communication (personal, telephone, e-mail, and written) skills; and ability to work effectively with a large and diverse group. Must be independently proactive in recognizing or avoiding problems and finding solutions. Must have high functionality with editing, word processing, network browsers, e-mail, and spreadsheet software (e.g., Excel, MS Word, Word Perfect, Netscape, emacs) in desktop or Unix environments. Must be knowledgeable about MIT policies and procedures and have demonstrated ability to identify and utilize Institute resources, i.e., forms, templates, electronic purchasing/tracking systems (including SAP), vouchers, approvals, credit cards, voice-mail, and e-mail/electronic documents. Associate's or bachelor's degree preferred. (Schedule to be determined.) 02-1056GC
