Job Description

LABOR RELATIONS SPECIALIST, Human Resources, to assist in the development and application of labor relations strategies, policies, and practices. Will participate in labor contract negotiations and in the interpretation and administration of collective bargaining agreements; coordinate the administration of five collective bargaining agreements covering 1,200 skilled trades, technical, custodial, police, and security employees; research issues in preparation for and during the course of negotiations; ensure that grievances and other personnel matters are investigated and resolved appropriately; develop strong relationships with managers and line supervisors; serve as a coach in managing difficult labor-related issues; work with colleagues to identify and create innovative solutions to solve and prevent problems; and research, prepare, and present, or assist human resource officers and/or counsel presenting arbitration cases and cases before administrative agencies involving union-represented employees. May work on policy issues for nonunionized employees and on the Institute's conflict management system. Will report to the Director of Labor and Employee Relations. REQUIREMENTS: the organizational, communication and analytical skills normally acquired through a bachelor's degree. J.D. or advanced degree preferred. Must have thorough knowledge of negotiation, contract administration, and labor law. At least seven years' experience preferred. Position requires excellent oral and written communication skills and a demonstrated ability to interact constructively with senior and mid-level management, employees at all levels, and union representatives. 02-1090Q
