Job Description

ASSISTANT REGISTRAR, Registrar's Office, to be responsible for all information about credit-bearing subjects published at MIT. Will collect, edit, and obtain faculty approval for all information concerning subjects and departmental degree programs in the MIT Bulletin; oversee all phases of production for these sections of the catalog; coordinate production cycle with MIT Communications Office and work to establish editorial standards and improve catalog production; work closely with faculty and departments to clarify policy about curricular changes and enforce deadlines; develop and interpret policy; manage production of other publications; oversee training for department catalog coordinators; produce reports; be responsible for accuracy of MITSIS catalog; serve as executive officer for the Committee on Curricula; set agenda for meetings; identify policy issues and manage review of petitions that require committee approval; contribute to the centralization of academic information; and provide supervision and direction to administrative assistant. REQUIREMENTS: a bachelor's degree or equivalent experience; direct experience in publishing areas and with faculty committees; ability to communicate and work effectively with a wide range of administrative and academic personnel; excellent organizational and proofreading/grammatical skills; willingness to assume responsibility; and ability to anticipate needs and set priorities. Must be able to work under deadline pressure, but also to initiate projects. Knowledge of MIT faculty rules, regulations, and policy details needed; as is ability to evaluate changes in context. Knowledge of database issues, desktop publishing, and Web technology required. Starting range: $40-50,000. 02-1180P
