Job Description

HEALTH EDUCATOR, MIT Medical, to improve healthy lifestyle choices and decisions and reduce the negative effects of stress among members of the MIT community, with a special focus on students. Will be responsible for planning, implementing, managing, and evaluating mental health-related health education programs. Recent strategic planning in health education will support efforts to make a measurable impact on campus using strategies such as train-the-trainer, direct education (workshops), networking, community building, and interdepartmental collaboration. Will work closely with the mental health staff and participate in ongoing initiatives such as the mental health social marketing initiative, clinical outreach initiatives, student peer education and advocacy programs, and student life staff training and orientation. REQUIREMENTS: a master's degree in appropriate field (e.g., MSW, MPH, MS) and at least three years' experience in health education or mental health related field. (Experience may substitute for education; education may substitute for experience where relevant and appropriate.) Experience with program design and development required, including needs assessment, using applicable theory, and familiarity with evaluation techniques. Must be at ease with desktop publishing and word processing programs. Excellent, empathetic interpersonal skills with many constituencies important. Must be able to use listening skills and communication to involve others. High level of organizational and administrative skills needed. Strong desire to make a difference in a unique, supportive campus setting a must. Should be able to work evenings and weekends as needed to fulfill mission of the position.
