Job Description

FACULTY LIAISON, Engineering Systems Division/OpenCourseWare, to manage relationships between OpenCoureWare (OCW) and from one to three academic departments/groups across the Institute. OCW is a major MIT initiative to translate all of MIT's course materials into freely-available web sites over the next ten years. Will serve as the primary interface between OCW and the faculty. As OCW builds its organization and operations, will be especially important in communicating OCW's mission and program to faculty as well as assessing user needs from the MIT community for the core OCW team. REQUIREMENTS: a bachelor's degree or equivalent experience; experience working with faculty and/or in academic environments; knowledge of the Internet and educational technology trends, applications, and implementation; and basic knowledge of general technology areas such as XML, HTML, Java, databases, and web servers. Must be able to quickly learn high-level subject matter trends and principles. Strong interpersonal and oral and written communications skills needed, as is ability to work in a team environment. Must be self-motivated and have the desire to be an integral part of a fast paced, high-visibility organization. Should have experience with Microsoft Office Suite and working knowledge of web site development tools (e.g., Dreamweaver). Some knowledge of MIT curriculum areas preferred, as is experience with on-line initiatives related to web site design and production. Experience with software applications such as Microsoft Project, file conversion to PDF and HTML formats, and version control software also preferred. 02-1211
