Job Description

NETWORK ENGINEER III, Academic Media Production Services, to be responsible for the maintenance and operation of LAN and WAN networks to ensure timely, reliable, and cost effective network services to the internal units of AMPS and their associated clients. The primary focus of the work is on the technical and operational assessment of network systems to identify and address sources of network problems and the provisioning for new/changing requirements. REQUIREMENTS: a bachelor's degree, preferably in computer science or electrical engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience; three to six years' experience with design and engineering of LAN and WAN network; familiarity with LAN technology including router configuration, programming and protocols (rip. igrp, eigrp, ospf, http, rtsp, rtp, icmp, etc.), Cisco switches, VLAN and secure remote access configuration, and firewall technologies; thorough knowledge of WindowsNT/2000/XP and UNIX networking fundamentals; and experience with network diagnostic tools (MRTG, beacon, sniffers, etc). Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills; the ability to hear, understand, and retain complex verbal and written information and instructions; the physical strength and the agility to safely lift, manipulate, install, and troubleshoot equipment and lift 50 lbs. Experience with streaming media and videoconferencing applications including network support preferred; as is experience with PERL, c/c++, shell scripting, and Visual Basic. Experience with UNIX/NT/2000 server optimization and management, SAN implementation, and Internet2 networking also preferred. Must be able to work a flexible schedule including evening and/or weekend hours and provide pager response. 02-1218P
