Description RESEARCH ENGINEER/LAB AND FACILITIES MANAGER, Institute for Soldier Nanotechnologies, to manage 28,000 square feet of laboratories and supporting facilities, lead compliance with all government and MIT-mandated safety and environmental requirements, and support a diverse array of research projects. Management responsibilities will include assuring that all research facilities, computers, and visualization and teleconferencing equipment are maintained and updated; maintaining accurate and up-to-date inventories; liaising with MIT central facilities to assure that support services are available; and supporting the ISN Coordinator of Facilities in the design, specification, procurement, and modification of space, support facilities, and major equipment. Research responsibilities will include supporting multiple projects focused on the discovery, synthesis, characterization, processing, testing, and proof of concept demonstrations of materials and devices for protection of soldiers from ballistic threats, chemical and biological agents, extremes of temperature, and other threats; construction, maintenance, and operation of apparatus for studies; and training students, postdocs, and visiting specialists. REQUIREMENTS: an earned doctoral degree (Ph.D., Sc.D.) in experimental research in materials science, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, physical chemistry, physics, or other relevant discipline. Seek a well organized, collegial, hands-on, laboratory-oriented team player who is comfortable working one-on-one or in a group with a diverse range of people including faculty, students, postdocs, support staff, and visitors from the Army and industry. Must exhibit attention to detail and possess excellent organizational skills and superior written and oral English communication skills.
