Job Description

LIBRARY ASSISTANT IV, The Libraries-Dewey/Humanities, to join a team whose duties include monographs, journals, serials, and government documents processing, claiming, and problem solving. Will provide comprehensive collection support to subject specialists, assist in the acquisition of new materials, track and backorder journal issues, and process gift materials. Will also carry out a large array of collections functions such as finding publisher and price information; handle monograph withdrawals, monograph and journal replacement and repair, and daily monograph check-in and record maintenance; maintain the new books and impulse borrowing displays; advise subject selectors on storage issues; participate in other team functions including web support; participate in formulating policies and procedures and on team projects; and train and direct student workers. Will also contribute to system-wide initiatives, serve at the reference desk, and perform other duties as assigned. REQUIREMENTS: a minimum of 2.5 years' direct/related experience; excellent organizational skills; ability to perform a wide variety of tasks with minimal supervision; an aptitude for accurate, detail-oriented work; initiative, flexibility, and ability to work in a team environment; effective written and oral communication skills; and positive service attitude, strong interpersonal skills, and proven ability to interact effectively with a variety of people. Physical ability to push heavy book trucks and lift weights of up to forty pounds needed. Experience with automated library systems and Windows environment strongly preferred, as is experience with HTML and/or Dreamweaver. Post-high school education may count toward experience. 03-0045GC
