found a new fabulous artist! remedios varo's art reminds me of dali and wayne anderson most, i think. that link was to a great set of URLs, and you can buy prints and books of her work here.
the codex seraphinianus if very nifty, and after many years is back in print (for 200 euros plus shipping)...
the reports of wayne anderson's death were apparently greatly exaggerated!
a few of his images can be seen here, and here, but they're only ones of dragons.
i love his children's books, including ratsmagic, and "the horrible book."
daniel merriam. very similar style to anderson, though less dark.
jerry uelsmann. surrealist photography. amazing stuff.
new find in the neat artist category! jerry uelsmann's wife, maggie taylor. galleries found here
john paul caponigro does beautiful stuff -- a lot of it (especially the "sensual landscapes") appear to be so close as to be called rip-offs of jerry uelsmann's stuff, but they're still beautiful.
magritte, the first surrealist whose work i fell in love with.
alphonse mucha. influential art nouveau artist..
catherine mcintyre. collage-based faded images of dreams.
michael whelan does
illustrations for SF/F books, as well as other unrelated art. less surrealistic than most of the others here, but beautiful...
gustav klimt. i got to see a lot of his stuff in person in vienna, including the amazing beethoven frieze in the Secesion. most prints i've ever seen don't come close to doing them justice.
the book of beginnings: an odd combination of narrative, labyrinth, and gorgeous raytraced art
(most raytracing i've seen is clever, but not art. this stuff is art.)
also, the
files. by the same author, less raytracing, more narrative, still
amazing.
this man totally blows my mind. a tribute to a gorgeous outlet of
obsessive-compulsive disorder: andy
goldsworthy's work involves finding objects in nature and warping
them into not-quite-natural forms, with an aesthetic that very closely
matches mine. (not to imply that he is actually suffering from OCD --
i know nothing about it, but anyone who had the patience to create such
thing is certainly, at least, obsessed...)
more pictures of his here.
these people do some of the most gorgeous jewelry i've seen. the online catologue does not do it justice. they're the only people i've seen who do gryphons _correctly_ (damnit, gryphons are not supposed to be "cute"!). look for them the next time you're at a con or pennsic.
spider makes amazing chainmail jewelry. 'nuff said.
more still to be added...
