Operations Research

Operations Research (O.R.) is the discipline of applying advanced analytical methods to help make better decisions.

By using techniques such as mathematical modeling to analyze complex situations, operations research gives executives and managers at all levels the power to make more effective decisions and build more productive systems based on the intelligent use of data, the consideration of all available options, and the analysis of risk. This power relies on decision tools (including optimization, statistics, forecasting, and probabilistic analysis) developed over the past 60 years.

The Operations Research Concentration

Students take the Operations Research concentration for a variety of reasons. Some students choose the concentration so that they can learn more about decision tools, both to enhance their overall education as well as for providing a sound basis for a career in consulting, manufacturing, and more. Other students choose the O.R. concentration because it teaches systems thinking as well as a decision process. Still others choose O.R. just because they enjoy the subject material.
