こと　　fact; matters; things; intangible things
	
１。おもしろかったことを手紙に書いた。

	おもしろかったことをてがみにかいた。

	I wrote in a letter about things that were interesting.

２。その物質のことは、まだほとんど知られていない。

	そのぶっしつのことは、まだほとんどしられていない。

	Things about the substance is still unknown for the most part.	

こと　is used for nominalizing a phrase.

１。中国語は書くことはそれほどむずかしくないが、話すことは本当に大変だ。

	ちゅうごくごはかくことはそれほどむずかしくないが、はなすことはほんとうにたいへんだ。

	Writing in Chiniese is not so difficult for me, but speaking is a problem.	

２。母が結婚する前に高校で教えていてことをはじめて聞いた。

	ははがけっこんするまえにこうこうでおしえていたことをはじめてきいた。

	I heard for the first time that my mother was teaching at a high school before she got married.

３。抗体遺伝子がどう分化するかということを研究している。

	いでんしがどうぶんかするかということをけんきゅうしている。	

	I am doing a research on how (the fact that) a gene diversifies.
