映像通信時代 (えいぞうつうしんじだい) - The era of visual communication
Increase of communication bandwidth (e.g. ATM) and the progress of video
compression technology (e.g. MPEG) enabled us to transmit live video images
through the network. Although the dominant media are the text and still
images today, the era of live-video communication is approaching.
蓄積型通信 (ちくせきがたつうしん) - Store-and-forward communication
Asynchronous communication method used in e-mail and data base. It is made
of two steps: 1) store the information in the shared repository, and 2) retrieve the information from the shard repository.
個人用画面 (こじんようがめん) - Personal screen
共用画面 (きょうようがめん) - Shared screen
TeamWorkStaion provides two screens: one personal screen and on shared
screen. The personal screen is to access to the information privately
without sharing. The shared screen allows the information displayed on it
be shared with remote users using translucent overlay technique.
