Le Grand Hôtel des Balcons

We’re here. We’re here. We’re here. This was the only thought racing through my mind as I stepped out of the taxi. I’ve been feeling pretty anxious up to this point. For me, this was my first time flying an international flight alone. I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. Already things didn’t go as planned. First, we didn’t sit together on the flight to Paris as I had previously thought, but that worked out fine because I managed to catch some sleep to battle the jet lag. My baggage broke in transit; someone had kindly placed my suitcase’s wheel right next to it on the conveyor belt at baggage claim. No problem, I thought to myself, il faut faire du bricolage plus tard (which I managed to do with some handy super glue from le Monoprix that evening). But our hotel accommodations ended up being quite nice.

Grand Hotel des Balcons

Le Grand Hotel des Balcons is situated in the middle of 6ème arrondissement, in a chic part of Paris, near restaurants, shops, Le Jardin du Luxembourg and l’Odeon. The exterior of the hotel is decorated with a number of small balconies (thus the name) and the interior is decorated with stain-glassed windows, tulip-shaped glass lamps, chandeliers, and bronze work. After climbing up a flight of stairs with my luggage and learning how to use the lock on my door, I thought to myself, perhaps I should take a nap before I take on the city. (-Carmel)
