Parc des Buttes Chaumont

It used to be one of the ugliest places in Paris. People have used it as a hanging place, a garbage site, and a quarry. Then, under Napoléon III and Haussmann, it was turned into a public garden.

It's not a typical French garden with geometric bushes and organized flower plots, but more of a rambling English garden will hills, exotic trees, rock piles, and even a Greek temple perched on an excavated cliff. It's actually the third largest park in Paris, but few people visit it because of its location in the 19th arrondissement. (-Lisa)
