Here are some photos from Shark Valley Everglades National Park.
Our first alligator. I wish I had a photo of Yuri Tschinkel's expression when he suddenly realized he was walking only a few feet from this alligator :)
There are more birds in Shark Valley than there are broken promises in a political convention. This one is an anhinga.
A baby alligator. Somehow I'm not inclined to tickle it under the chin and say "gitchy-goo".
There are no sharks or valleys in Shark Valley. But there is a vast expanse of water, sawgrass and tree islands.
This is a "borrow hole".
This alligator is no baby!
Florida Everglades or the Serengeti? You be the judge.
Another anhinga.
The water turtle: one of the few Everglades animals not on the alligator's dinner menu.
This splay-legged alligator quietly endured the abuse of one visitor who kept throwing twigs on his head.
This is what the Everglades, and all of Florida, is made from: limestone.
Here are the lilypads, but where are the frogs? That sounds strangely familiar . . .
David Ben-Zvi spotted this anhinga bird.
Another anhinga sunning itself on a tree branch. They look a little like turkeys.
