While there is an active racing program at the pavilion, most of the pavilion's
visitors are recreational sailors who probably wouldn't have learned to sail
without the pavilion's semi-weekly learn-to-sail classes. Sometimes, sailors will
mount a motor onto a keelboat and take the boat through the locks at the Charles
River Dam and into Boston harbor. The pavilion hosts a
party on the Fourth of July and invites its members to view the fireworks from
the shore of the Charles. Every full moon, the staff set up barbecue grills
outside and invites members to eat and sail into the night.
