Dwight Brown, a member of the pavilion staff, keeps an eye on the river. Dwight
arrived at MIT as a freshman in the summer of '73. He didn't learn to sail until
the next spring, when his hall tutor in 3rd East of East Campus took a group
sailing. He never left MIT and now works full time at the pavilion.
Dwight suffers from partial vision loss - he has holes in his visual field. He recognizes people mainly by voice, but he's able to see well enough to track boats on the river. Dwight is something of a living history of the Institute. He recounts “sitting in Lobby 7, watching the TV during Watergate in the summer of '74.” He was also on the first Orange Tours, when “this guy on Third East decided, 'we'll lead a different tour of the Institute, late at night.'” |
