Terminologyby The Space Cowboy |
Here is just a list of terms and ideas that should be useful to beginners and seasoned judo players alike. Much of this information can be found on the judo information site at http://www.judoinfo.com along with pictures of the techniques. I hope this can be helpful to everyone, since--as was mentioned in class--this is the language of Judo. We do not go around calling integrals "borangers" and derivatives "whajamers". It is a lingo it will alow you to play judo where ever you go.

Ok, this is by no means an exhaustive list. There are a bundle of words and techniques that I have not included in this list, but it should be enough to hold you all over for quite a bit. All of this knowledge did not just come from my head. I did have to look up quite a bit of it. There is a terrific web site run by a fellow out in Califonia, Neil Ohlenkamp. The site is http://www.judoinfo.com/. It has a ton of useful judo info, especially rules of the sport, proper class etiquette, the philosopy and history of judo and many pictures of the technique.
I NEED to say this: PLEASE DO NOT GO TO THIS WEB PAGE, LOOK AT A TECHNIQUE AND USE IT ON AN UNSUSPECTING UKI. HE/SHE WILL GET HURT ====> YOU WILL FEEL BAD ====> WE WILL NO LONGER HAVE A JUDO CLUB. IT WILL EFFECT US ALL. IN OTHER WORDS, DON'T DO IT UNLESS ANNE TEACHES IT TO YOU. Cool. I hope this is useful and folks won't be so intimidated with the Japanese lingo, and we can all have fun and keep playing judo. I will print this out for folks who are not on the list.
See you all at the next practice.
