The board discussed the "New England Cycling Raceweek 2006," which is June 24th to July 2nd, 2006. George Ganzt is working to expand racing opportunities the week before the Fitchburg Race. Also, feedback from the crowd at last year's Fitchburg (as a result of the Kids Demonstration led by Annette Kennedy) was very favorable to expand kids and junior's racing in the area. BOTTOM LINE: Annette Kennedy needs volunteers for the Kids Criterium and B&B (see below). Contact her at: Kennedyy@comcast.com. Bicycling and Beyond (B&B): Annette Kennedy is going to teach this class again, starting on 10 April 2006 for six weeks (7 with no class on 17 April 2006). B&B teaches children in grades 4 - 6 hands-on bicycling skills. The class includes: safety course designed to give young students a foundation of knowledge and skills to promote safe riding, an alternative mode of transportation, beginning race skills and a strong concentration on healthy life style which includes exercise and nutrition. Graduation is racing at the Kids Crit (above). Class time is 3:30 PM to 5 PM. The class meets at the gym at the Winchester Rec. Dept. at 263 Main Street, Winchester, MA. Tom Catalini discussed starting a program in Melrose running in parallel with Annette Kennedy's program. Great way to earn your VRP for 2006. Any club member, racer or non, road, MTB, Tri, is needed. Slate for Open Board Positions (Two): Jim Burke, Scott Brooks, David Chiu, Annette Kennedy and Cris Rothfus have been proposed for the two open "at large" board positions for 2006. The ballot process will be the last two weeks in January (look for emails). The February board meeting will finalize positions for 2006. Higher Level Coaching: The board received a proposal from a professional coaching service to provide a specified program for the men's and woman's NEBC elite teams. The board passed the following resolution. The club earmarked $10K annually for "all" coaching services and clinics and authorized the men's Cat III team to negotiate with the professional coaching service, not to exceed $5K, for services for the Cat III/Elite teams. Scott Brooks is heading up this effort for the men. Jessica Truslow is doing the same for the women and will also be arranging club-wide clinics and seminars. If you have questions, please email Scott Brooks. NOTE: For the majority of Cat IV and Cat V NEBC racers, the existing training program run under the auspices of Ross Kennedy will remain the sole support for those teams at this time. This is a new effort for the Cat III and higher elite men's and women's NEBC teams. Fees for 2006: The board voted to maintain the current fee structure. $25 for annual membership (check or paypal [being investigated] ($30 after March 31st, details on the club website). $50 for the Charlie Baker Time Trail. $10 for RRP/VRP program. RRP/VRP: Payments were distributed. A discussion of the RRP program ensued. 21 members received a total of $7663 in reimbursement for their racing entry fees. The discussions centered on changing the program, the need for changing the program, or leave it as is. The board will continue to discuss the RRP program. If you have questions or concerns about the RRP/VRP program, please email any of the board members with your input. All is welcome. Club Activity Volunteers (continuing need): The board is looking to entice club members to take a more active role in race promotion, insurance coordination, team coaching, specialty clinics (intro to racing, nutrition, core strength, sprinting, time trailing, hill climbing, riding for fitness, massage clinic, development, junior development, sponsorship coordinator, clothing coordinator, calendar coordinator, kids clinic, volunteer coordinator, etc). While the board has done a lot of this work over the years it is becoming necessary for greater participation. Earn your VRP for 2006 with helping out in one of these areas. A simple email and you are off on your NEBC involvement journey! Please contact Tami. Webpage Update: Julian and Dave's efforts have resulted in a new webpage. Take a look, its COOL! Membership forms for 2006 will soon be available. Charlie Baker Time Trial (continued): The award of the TT bicycle will be at the holiday mid-winter Cycleloft party, details to follow. Sign up for a CBTT pass with your re-newel membership. NOTE: Cycleloft will begin checking (very soon) the 2006 NEBC membership paid in full listing supplied by the club prior to hitting the "final sale" key on the register. So don't get caught short, re-new today! See the webpage. Coaching Lectures: Additional lectures are being arranged. Electronic Payment Methods: Still investigating. The prior experiment (Bikereg) did not meet club expectations; PayPal is being pursued if that can be worked out. Club Birthday: We are fourteen months away from the 50th year anniversary of the club's creation. A celebration is being planned. Stay tuned.
